Foreperson - Pakenham

Lindsay Park Racing is looking for an experienced and highly motivated person to join our Pakenham stable on a full-time basis as a Foreperson. Salary will be negotiable dependent on experience. A high-quality accommodation option is available if needed. The right person will be skilled and experienced in managing a team of horses and staff. You will be able to take direction from, and work closely with, our Assistant Trainer and Head Trainers. We are looking for a committed team member who has extensive horse experience, is a natural leader and leads by example.

Tasks include:

  • Managing the day-to-day running of a barn of horses in training

  • Management and coordination of stable staff, including timesheet management and rostering

  • Taking horse temperatures, treatment administration and being able to teach staff how to do so

  • Consulting with stable vets, farriers and chiros to manage health and wellbeing of horses

  • Maintaining horse records in line with the rules of racing

  • Representing the stable at jump-outs, barrier trials and race days as required

  • Preparing horses for trackwork

 Qualifications:

  • You will need a minimum of 3 years full time experience as a foreperson, or 2 years full time experience and a relevant qualification such as Certificates in Stablehand and Equine Industry.

  • Effective communication and team building skills

  • Proven experience in managing and leading a stable barn and team

  • Demonstrated experience and confidence in handling and educating horses

  • Race day experience representing a stable and talking to media

  • Knowledge and understanding of the rules of racing
