JONKER / TEEGEEBEE COLT

Privately Purchased

From the first crop of Gr.1 Manikato Stakes winner JONKER, this colt presents fantastic value to race an untried horse with the stable.

A well balanced colt with a nice early foaling date, this horse has been ticking all the boxes so far in his early education. He is coming to the pointy end of his orientation preparation here at Lindsay Park and has demonstrated a balanced, athletic action under saddle. It won’t be long til we get our first peak under the hood as his work continues to step up in the coming weeks.

On paper, this colt is bred to be effective over 1400m - 2000m with plenty of speed from the sire line with JONKER being by Gr.1 winning sprinter SPIRIT OF BOOM. On the dam’s side there are some strong middle distance, staying credentials with his dam being a full sister to Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes winner CHAPADA. Chapada was a genuine stakes horse running third in four Gr.1’s including the Victoria Derby, Australian Cup and Turnbull Stakes.

Further down the page you’ll find a prolific European stakes-class family, proven at the highest levels from 1600m to 2500m.

From what we have seen so far from this colt, he could be at the races as a late 2YO/early 3YO and should only continue to improve from there.

About his sire Jonker

The most credentialed progeny of Gr.1 winning sprinter SPIRIT OF BOOM, Jonker had a fascinating career on the track. In his 2YO season he put up two impressive wins - one being his debut run where he won by 4.5L over 900m and the second being his win in the Restricted Listed Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic, beating home Skyray and Bondi.

He continued to race at the highest levels in his 3YO, 4YO and 5YO seasons, placing in six Group races including running second in the Gr.1 Kingsford Smith Cup and third in the Gr.1 Galaxy Handicap.

But his best performance was his last where, as a 6YO he came out to win the Gr.1 Mankato Stakes, beating sprinting sensation and subsequent Everest winner, Bella Nipotina. On that day he recorded the fastest time ever run in the Manikato by a colt or gelding.

Jonker’s precociousness combined with his longevity is a rare attribute amongst the stallion ranks. But the theme of his career, bookending his career was his blistering speed.
