A smart 3YO gelding by ALMANZOR - the same sire as the stables multiple stakes winner RISE AT DAWN, scheduled to be at the jump outs in mid October.
This strong gelding by ALMANZOR has been ticking all of the boxes as he builds up towards a late spring 3YO campaign. In his first ever jump out at Flemington in mid-June, this gelding showed good natural ability finishing the trial strongly with plenty left in the tank. He did everything right with the trainers encouraged by the speed he exhibited considering this jump out was over 800m - a distance far shorter than what his breeding suggests will be best suited to him. Being by ALMANZOR, this gelding is showed good potential as a late 2YO. No doubt, time is going to be his best friend and we expect him to keep improving into his 3YO year and beyond. Almanzor himself was an elite 3YO, winning three Gr.1’s over 2000m in that season before retiring to stud. His staying prowess has certainly been passed on to his progeny which includes Gr.1 Victoria Derby winner MANZOICE and Gr.1 Sydney Cup winner CIRCLE OF FIRE. With the success of multiple stakes-winner RISE AT DAWN in our own stable, ALMANZOR is a stallion we have a lot of time for.
Elite 3YO genes feature on both sides of this gelding’s page. His dam Miss Zenella, ran second in the Queensland Oaks and posted two career wins up to 2050m. She is by legendary New Zealand stallion ZABEEL (winner of the Gr.1 Australian Guineas and trained by Colin Hayes), whose impact as a broodmare sire continues to be felt at the top level with the likes of SUNSHINE IN PARIS, recent winner of the Gr.1 Doomben 10,000. Miss Zenella also has a strong record at stud, from five runners she has produced five winners including the listed winner MISS ELLA - who is a close relation to our gelding being by IFFRAAJ, the grand-sire of ALMANZOR.
