A former Gr.1 and multiple stakes winning jockey based in Melbourne, Matt had a stellar career until retiring from riding in 2014 due to serious injury. He then accepted a role with Racing Victoria, coaching jockeys under the Apprentice Jockey Training Program.
The success of the program under Matt, saw the Singapore Turf Club appoint him as their own full-time Apprentice Jockey Coach.
Returning from Singapore in 2021, Matt made the move to Lindsay Park where he oversees various on-ground operations across the business between Euroa and Flemington. His broad range of duties range from coaching riders and enhancing track riding skills to managing and mentoring staff, while also being hands on with the horses.
