I have spent the bulk of my time this month at our Euroa base but did make it up to the Magic Millions June Racehorse Sale on the Gold Coast, where I purchased a lovely Choisir colt for Glenn Heran.
The property at Lindsay Park Euroa is looking magnificent and I am excited to say that this is the first year that we have had the opportunity to use our new set up to educate our yearlings. Currently the last of our yearlings are completing their orientation and there are still a handful of them with shares available, so if you are in the market, be quick as they will sell fast.
The quality of feed plays an enormous part in the performance of racehorses. I have recently employed Stephen Duren from Performance Horse Nutrition to review our feed and we have since implemented a new feed mix based on Stephen's recommendations.
Typically towards the end of the racing season it is a quiet time for many trainers, but I did want to touch on two impressive recent winners - Rawnaq and Mawaakib. Both won at their first starts at Wagga and Sandown respectively. They will both head in separate directions and I will space their runs leading in to the spring. Rawnaq looks like a talented stayer in the making and I will be aiming him at the Derby. Mawaakib had trialled well leading in to her debut win and I believe she will be a contender in the Thousand Guineas this spring.
I look forward to this column becoming a regular piece in our monthly newsletter. If there are any particular topics you would like me to cover in upcoming columns, send an email to correspondence@lindsaypark.com.au and I will be happy to address them.
Until next time,
David Hayes
