On the racetrack, Good Journey was as honest as he was classy. Competing exclusively on turf, from 16 starts he missed a place only once, winning 7 races and placed on a further 8 occasions. Good Journey’s Gr. 1 success came in the US$1million Woodbine Atto Mile winning by a length in the fast time of 1:33:27. He would go on to win 3 more races at Gr. 2 level including the Hollywood Citation (8.5 furlongs), which he won twice. Good Journey then confirmed himself as a world class miler with his third placing in the Gr.1 Breeders Cup Mile, a race in which Rock Of Gibraltar was runner-up.

Good Journey is by Nureyev, sire of 135 stakeswinners and an established sire of sires (Stravinsky, Spinning World, Peintre Celebre, Theatrical etc.). His Dam, Chimes Of Freedom, was a precocious two-year-old winning 4 of her 5 juvenile starts in Ireland including a Gr. 1 over 6 Furlongs. She would go on at three to win the Gr.1 Newmarket Cheveley Park Sprint, finishing her career with 6 wins from 9 starts. Chimes of Freedom is by the Damascus line stallion Private Account, the champion broodmare sire of no less than 91 stakeswinners including Good Journey’s half brother, Aldebaran, the triple Group One winning Champion USA sprinter of 2003. Good Journey’s 2nd dam, Aviance, was also a Group One winner herself and threw 3 stakes winners including Denon (4 time Gr. 1 winner) and Imperfect Circle (Dam of Spinning World).

Having stood privately at Ealing Park from 2003-2006 before being purchased by Magali Farms in the USA, Good Journey’s eldest Australian crop are now three-year-olds. From only 23 live foals in his first crop he now has 15 runners for 11 winners including Gr. 1 winner Grand Journey (WATC Derby) and Gr. 2 winner Sound Journey (MVRC Alistair Clark Stakes).
