Launching his career in electrifying fashion, this precocious son of champion sire, Red Ransom, won his first three starts as an early two-year-old. He then travelled to Sydney to be narrowly beaten in race-record time in the Skyline Stakes. After receiving the visitors draw (16 of 16) in the Golden Slipper, Face Value still managed to be the first colt home after sitting three and four deep.
As a three-year-old, he competed against – and defeated – the best horses of his age. In Melbourne, his spring goal was the Caulfield Guineas, where he finished second ahead of Elvstroem, Exceed and Excel, Kempinsky, Lago Delight and Hasna having previously, beaten the likes of Starcraft, Polar Success and Niello. As a four-year-old he took out the Group Three Bobbie Lewis, beating four Group One winners down the Flemington straight.
Face Value has made a promising start at stud with his first crop progeny averaging $40,500 at the majors in 2008. To date he has had 14 runners for 1 winner and 7 further placegetters.
