Ownership Options

There are many ownership options available with Lindsay Park Racing. You can breed or buy your own horse, and we can train it for you, or you can buy into a horse that we have already selected. The most common way for new owners to get involved with the sport of Thoroughbred Racing is to buy into a share of a yearling (one year old horse) purchased by the stable at one of the various yearling auctions that take place every year. From time to time we also privately purchase quality proven horses (horses that are already racing) for our owners from both overseas and within Australia.

Yearling horses are sold through the sales ring 'unbroken' (i.e. never been ridden) and they are selected based on their phyiscal conformation ('type'), their pedigree and veterinary history. They can cost from just $10,000 up to over $1 million, depending on all of the above factors and the competition at the auction.

David Hayes and our Bloodstock consultants inspect all horses that are offered at the major auctions and personally select all of the horses that we purchase at the sales. We been very active at the yearling sales this year and a wide variety of options remain (at various price levels) for owners to join existing partnerships.

The minimum entry level is to take a 5% stake in a horse however most owners prefer to take a larger share. A good strategy to diversify your risk and give you more chance of landing a good horse is to take a small stake in several horses if your budget allows.

The average ongoing costs to have a horse in training with Lindsay Park Racing is approximately $200 per month for a 5% share.
